Materials

For the Ornament

  • 1 piece Clear plastic lid (like from yogurt or a takeout container)
  • varied sizes Acrylic gems (varied colors and sizes)
  • 1 sheet Crushed iridescent cellophane Easy to find at craft stores
  • varied amounts Translucent paint (like acrylic or watercolor)
  • 1 bottle Clear glue Ensure it’s kid-safe and non-toxic
  • 1 length Fishing line or string For hanging

Instructions

Preparation

  • Start by painting rings of translucent rainbow colors around the plastic lid. Let each layer dry completely before adding the next one.
  • While the paint is drying, use the clear glue to build textured bands around the rim of the lid with the acrylic gems and crushed iridescent cellophane.
  • Allow the entire ornament to dry thoroughly. This can take a few hours depending on the materials you’ve used.
  • Once everything is dry, use fishing line or string to hang your ornament in a sunny spot.
