Materials

  • Baking soda (easy to find at any grocery store)
  • Citric acid (available in stores or online)
  • Epsom salt (soothing and smooth)
  • Cornstarch (for a soft texture)
  • Essential oils (choose soothing scents like lavender or peppermint)
  • Food coloring (optional, for a touch of color)
  • Mixing bowls (sturdy and safe)
  • Spoon (to blend your ingredients gently)
  • Silicone molds (for shaping your gems)
  • Water (to bind everything together)

Instructions

  • Begin by mixing the dry ingredients: baking soda, citric acid, Epsom salt, and cornstarch in a bowl. Feel the fine texture as you stir them together.
  • In a separate bowl, combine your essential oils and food coloring. Enjoy the calming aroma as you blend them gently.
  • Slowly pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Notice how they begin to react. You should hear a soft fizz. Stir it all together, feeling the consistency change.
  • Add water a few drops at a time until the mixture holds its shape when pressed. Take your time as you feel the blend in your hands.
  • Firmly pack the mixture into your silicone molds. Press gently to ensure they hold their shape, enjoying the texture beneath your fingers.
  • Allow the gems to dry. This may take a few hours or overnight. You might notice subtle scents filling the air as they set.
  • Once dry, carefully remove them from the molds. Enjoy the tactile sensation and the vibrant colors of your finished crystals.
