Materials

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup Cornstarch
  • 1 cup White glue
  • 2 drops Baby oil For added softness
  • Few drops Food coloring To achieve desired color
  • 1 piece Butterfly cutter For shaping the charms
  • 1 coat Clear varnish For durability and glossiness
  • 1 piece Cord for hanging To display the charms

Instructions

Cooking the Mixture

  • In a small pot, combine cornstarch, white glue, and a few drops of baby oil. Stir over low heat until a dough forms.
  • Watch for the mixture to thicken and pull away from the sides of the pot, indicating it’s ready. Use caution when handling hot materials.

Cooling and Kneading

  • Transfer the dough to a cool surface. Allow it to cool down to a manageable temperature.
  • Knead the dough until it is smooth and lightly tint it with a few drops of food coloring.

Shaping the Butterflies

  • Roll the dough out to about a quarter-inch thick.
  • Use the butterfly cutter to cut out shapes and create holes at the top for hanging using a straw.
  • Let the charms air-dry for several hours until completely firm.

Finishing and Displaying

  • Once dry, paint a layer of clear varnish over each charm for durability and glossiness.
  • Take a piece of cord and thread it through the holes to create a hanger.
  • Display your charms beautifully in windows or as part of a mobile.

Tips & Notes:

If the dough is too sticky, add more cornstarch to reach the right consistency. Shape any distorted butterflies gently before they harden. Consider using different cookie cutters for various designs.
