Materials

  • Baking soda (easy to find in most kitchens)
  • Water
  • A mixing bowl
  • A spoon or whisk for stirring
  • Small decorations (like buttons, beads, or bits of fabric for a scarf)
  • A tray to catch the growing mixture

Instructions

  • Begin by pouring about a cup of baking soda into a mixing bowl. Run your fingers through the fine powder for an enjoyable sensory experience.
  • Gradually add about half a cup of water to the baking soda. As you do this, take a moment to observe how the mixture changes.
  • Use your spoon or whisk to gently blend the baking soda and water. Feel how the texture shifts from dry to moist, allowing the changes to ground you in the moment.
  • Once fully combined, take a handful of the mixture and mold it into a small snowman shape. Feel the softness as it forms under your hands.
  • You can now create another layer for the snowman by adding more of the mixture on top, making a larger body. Remember, each step is about enjoying the process.
  • After shaping, it’s time to add the decoration. Use your small items to give your snowman personality perhaps a cheerful button for a nose or a tiny scarf made from fabric.
  • Finally, place your snowman on a tray to catch any overflow. Watch as it expands gently, creeping up like fresh snow melting into the earth.
