Materials

For the experiment

  • 1 piece clear glass jar or container Easy to find
  • 3/4 cup water To fill the jar
  • 1 can shaving cream Will act as your cloud
  • 5 drops food coloring Various colors for a vibrant effect
  • 1 set droppers or small cups For adding the colors
  • to taste spoonful glitter Optional for added magic

Instructions

Preparation

  • Begin by filling your clear jar about three-quarters full with water. This will represent the sky.
  • Gently squirt a layer of shaving cream on top of the water, creating a soft 'cloud' layer. Take your time as you do this; enjoy the texture and feel of the cream.
  • Using the dropper, add a few drops of food coloring on top of the shaving cream. Experiment with different colors to see how they interact.
  • After a few moments, observe how the food coloring begins to seep through the shaving cream, creating a beautiful rain effect. You can add more food coloring if you desire a stronger visual.
  • Watch closely as the colors drip down into the water, mimicking the natural process of rain and cloud interactions.
