Materials

  • A clear glass jar with a lid (easy to find)
  • Warm water
  • Vegetable oil (substitute-friendly)
  • Food coloring (various colors, optional)
  • Glitter (optional for extra sparkle)
  • Alka-Seltzer tablets (for the storm effect)

Instructions

  • Begin by filling your glass jar with warm water, leaving some space at the top.
  • Slowly add vegetable oil on top of the water; observe how it creates a gentle layer, floating gracefully.
  • If you wish, mix in a few drops of food coloring to give life to your storm.
  • For added magic, sprinkle in some glitter, letting it settle down like early raindrops.
  • Break your Alka-Seltzer tablets into smaller pieces and drop them into the jar, one at a time, while watching them fizz and create bursts of “lightning.”
