Materials
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour (easy to find)
- 1 cup of water
- 1 cup of salt
- 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
- optional: food coloring
- optional: essential oils for scent
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt, creating a soft mountain of white.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the water and vegetable oil before slowly pouring it into the dry ingredients.
- Stir gently with a spoon until it starts to take form, feeling the texture change beneath your fingers.
- Once combined, knead the mixture by hand on a floured surface. Feel the dough warm and soften with each press.
- If using, add food coloring now, kneading until the color is evenly blended throughout.
- When your dough is smooth and pliable, take a portion and flatten it into a disc about an inch thick.
- Press your hand firmly into the center to create an imprint, feeling the coolness of the dough contrasted with the warmth of your skin.
- Allow the handprint shapes to dry at room temperature for 48 hours or until firm.
